Students seeking to enroll in certain classes may require a permission number (previously known as an entry code). A student may be required to provide a permission number if the class is closed, the class requires consent to attend, or the student needs instructor permission to be added to an already full class.

Course Prerequisites

Some classes require prerequisites before you can enroll. You may be required to request a permission number if:

  • Highline has no record that you have taken the required prerequisite class, or
  • Highline has no record that you have the required placement test scores, or
  • The class requires the Instructor’s Permission.

Get a Permission Number

Permission Numbers are only available when web registration is open. Students may request permission numbers at the Permission Number Request site by logging in with their myHighline username and password.

Select the Term and Department and request permission to the appropriate course. After the 3rd day of a quarter, many classes no longer use permission numbers for registration. Please email proof of permission from the instructor to registration@highline.edu.

  • Your full name
  • Your ctcLink ID
  • Class title for which you want to register (example: MATH 99)
  • Class item item number (example: 37465) (See the Class Search)

Using Permission Numbers

If the class requires a permission number to enroll, when prompted, enter the number you have received into the permission number field.

Common Questions about Permission Numbers

I am using the permission number but I still cannot register online

Additional reasons registration for a class may be blocked are:

Do I need a permission number for every class?
  • A permission number is not required for every class.
  • There is some confusion about when students need to request permission numbers because the Permission Number Box automatically appears on the ctcLink registration page.
  • We encourage you to go through the process to register for your classes, and if you need a permission number, the system will inform you after you click the 'Enroll' Button.
How many times can I use the permission number?
  • Each permission number can only be used once.
  • If you need to change sections, you will need to contact the department or instructor for another permission number.
